LAUP (Laser assisted uvulopalatoplasty/palatoplasty)
The most frequent reason for qualifying a patient for the palatoplasty procedure is excessive snoring. With help of a thin and elastic optical fiber, the laser light is introduced inside the throat and soft palate. The effect of this procedure is an alteration of the shape or elevation of the soft palate. The distance from the posterior part of the throat is enlarged, reducing any obstacles and allowing more airflow through the airways during sleep. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and lasts only a dozen of minutes.
