FESS is an intranasal procedure that ensures lack of scars and visible suture marks. The procedure is done with use of a microscope or an endoscope, enabling the operator for precise opening of the natural outlets of paranasal sinuses. Any abnormal, pathologically changed mucosa or polypoid tissue are removed.
Indications for the procedure: chronic sinusitis. There are two types of chronic sinusitis: with polyps and without polyps. Sinusitis with polyps is often associated with allergy and/or bronchial asthma.
Desired effect: The procedure restores proper ventilation and drainage pathways of the affected sinuses. Patient regains proper nasal respiration, olfaction and significantly improved quality of life. Post-procedurally, patient has intranasal dressing consisting of intranasal Merocel type dressing. It is removed after 48 hours, after the procedure. The control visit is scheduled on the 7th day after the procedure. Full recuperation takes about 4 to 6 weeks.
