Tonsillectomy (procedure of palatine tonsil removal)
Indications:
- Chronic palatine tonsillitis
- Obstructive sleep apnea
- Recurrent tonsillitis
- Peritonsillar abscesses
- Extra-focal infections – acne, nephritis, joint pain, myocarditis
The procedure performed is with general endotracheal anesthesia or regional/field block anesthesia.
Effect of treatment: For the first few days, patients should follow liquid-mushy diet, and avoid spicy, sour and hot food. Painkiller drugs are advised perioperatively. Diet is broadened together with subsiding pain after the procedure. The pain may persist for approximately 14 days.
